Also known as therapy, psychotherapy, and talk therapy, it is the process through which you will work directly with a trained therapist in one-on-one sessions. You may seek therapy for a variety of reasons. You may need help coping with a new life challenge or life transition. You may have a childhood trauma that has been deeply haunting you for years. You may be dealing with symptoms of depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive behavior, eating disorders, attachment issues, marital issues, parental concerns, anger management skills, a lack of self-identity, or the simple desire to gain more personal growth and self-knowledge.
As the therapist, I will cultivate a calming, caring and confidential environment where you can do the work. You will explore and learn more about your feelings, belief systems, behaviors, defense mechanisms, coping skills, and overall mental-state-of-being. By identifying areas in your life that you would like to change, improve, and/or gain a better understanding. The therapist and you will work together towards achieving these personal goals.
You will receive a personalized treatment plan that is catered around your personal story, giving you the power to regain control over your life again. You will empower yourself by learning how to self-regulate through self-awareness, mindfulness techniques, as well as, learning new coping skills. You will regain control over your narrative by developing strong self-worth.
Individual counseling may last a few sessions or several years. Your needs and goals for therapy are different than everybody else so that’s why there’s no definite timeline.
